Follow delight.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. 4We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.

O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you. 5But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O Lord. Take them away with those who do evil.

How joyful are those who fear the Lord— all who follow his ways! 2You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be!

Lord God my Father,

I am a sinner and I don’t know you. Forgive me for my nature and deliver me to your delightful table. Cause me to follow the delightful way you show me and turn my back on the darkness of my desire. Your freedom is perfect, without weakness.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

His servant

“This is David, the servant of King Saul of Israel. He’s been with me for years, and I’ve never found a single fault in him from the day he arrived until today.”

And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”

But some evil troublemakers among David’s men said, “They didn’t go with us, so they can’t have any of the plunder we recovered. Give them their wives and children, and tell them to be gone.”

23But David said, “No, my brothers! Don’t be selfish with what the Lord has given us.

I love you, Lord;

you are my strength.

2The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;

my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.

He is my shield, the power that saves me,

and my place of safety.

Lord God my Father,

Give me the integrity of David and help me to be your servant as you desire. Be on my side and fight my battles, keep me from questioning your plan and reward me by allowing me to carry your love so others will know you.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

One craving only

I am determined not to sin in what I say.

Guard me as you would guard your own eyes

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.

Lord God my Father,

I wish to only follow your perfect Truth. Protect my eyes so I don’t fall to temptation, guard me from the enemy. Keep my longing after you alone.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

In His hand

I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people.

Let me hear you say, “I will give you victory!”

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you

I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.

Lord God my Father,

Thank you for leading me to a peaceful path. Protect me and keep me from wondering into dangerous situations and fill me with your peace. Hold me close.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Delightfully protected.

“Praise the Lord, who has avenged the insult I received from Nabal and has kept me from doing it myself.

“No!” David said. “Don’t kill him. For who can remain innocent after attacking the Lord’s anointed one?

Then he and Abishai got away without anyone seeing them or even waking up, because the Lord had put Saul’s men into a deep sleep.

Lord God my Father,

You fight my battles in ways that bring you glory, keep me out of your way by quieting my mind. Help me to see the world as you designed in and protect me when I enter danger.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Rest with Him in control.

My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!

I took my troubles to the Lord; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. 2Rescue me, O Lord, from liars and from all deceitful people.

Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you are good to me.”

Lord God my Father,

Protect and guide me to your way. Carry the sin of the world and allow me ot praise you for fighting for me. Your goodness is the air I breathe.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

His precious child

Arise, O Lord, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice! Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high.

The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. 15They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves.

The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

Let the wicked be disgraced; let them lie silent in the grave. 18Silence their lying lips— those proud and arrogant lips that accuse the godly.

I will boast only in the Lord;

Lord God my Father,

Protect and direct me in the meetings of today. Direct me on how to avoid or deal with the wicked. Allow me to live in your house and rest in your protection. Destroy the wicked and bless your children.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

One heart

“Please allow my father and mother to live here with you until I know what God is going to do for me.”

But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe. 6He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king.

‘I will never harm the king—he is the Lord’s anointed one.’

May the Lord therefore judge which of us is right and punish the guilty one. He is my advocate, and he will rescue me from your power!”

Lord God my Father,

Help me to protect my family as you direct me in my path. Keep me so close that your desire shapes my thoughts and actions. May I only do your will without struggling to understand why.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

His victory.

David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him.

David was delighted to accept the offer.

You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress. 10In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies.

Lord God my Father,

Give me success today and may it only be to honor you. Give me strength and protect me from darkness.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

God’s courage on me

“I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.”

Early the next morning Samuel went to find Saul. Someone told him, “Saul went to the town of Carmel to set up a monument to himself; then he went on to Gilgal.”

“But I did obey the Lord,” Saul insisted. “I carried out the mission he gave me. I brought back King Agag, but I destroyed everyone else. 21Then my troops brought in the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and plunder to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”

“What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. 23Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”

Then Saul admitted to Samuel, “Yes, I have sinned. I have disobeyed your instructions and the Lord’s command, for I was afraid of the people and did what they demanded. 25But now, please forgive my sin and come back with me so that I may worship the Lord.”

“Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Now the Spirit of the Lord had left Saul, and the Lord sent a tormenting spirit that filled him with depression and fear.

“You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Lord God my Father,

You chose me to be great, help me to have the courage to do your will and stay in your plan. Protect me from greed and self serving desires. Allow obedience to be most important to me. Give me courage to allow you to fight all my battles and follow your plan.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
