When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes. 12He gave these orders to Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Akbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king’s attendant: 13“Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book; they have not acted in accordance with all that is written there concerning us.”

Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. 20Therefore I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.’ ”

Nevertheless, the Lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to arouse his anger.

Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. 2He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.

The other events of Josiah’s reign and his acts of devotion in accordance with what is written in the Law of the Lord— 27all the events, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

Lord God my Father,

Your law brings abundant life, help me to be strong against turning away from you and following my sinful nature. Help me to stay under your authority and protection so my way is a blessing to you in all things. I repent of my sinful nature and wholeheartedly wish to live by your way. Deliver me and my family so we are your mouthpiece. Restore this land to the nation that pleases you. Give me your power and energy to accomplish your will.

I am against you,” declares the Lord Almighty. “I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.

All who hear the news about you clap their hands at your fall, for who has not felt your endless cruelty?

Lord God my Father,

You are order and Peace. Protect me from this world that doesn’t know you. Expose the darkness for what it is and give strength to those who wish to live by your desire. Destroy those who hate you or turn their heart to you.

God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

And when he prayed to him, the Lord was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God.

Lord God my Father,

Your way is the only way to abundant life, cause me to know where I stray. Restore me to your desire and keep me from worshiping any other.

Your sacred cities have become a wasteland; even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.

From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord. 24“And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

Lord God my Father,

Your way is good and leads to glory, choosing you is choosing life abundant. Lord God, keep me close and protect me from the evil close at hand. Protect my heart and give me strength to stay focused on your way in all situations. You are the best of the day and protector of Peace, shield me from choosing poorly with my thoughts.

Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the Lord when he says, ‘The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’

Lord God my Father,

Your Truth and Peace restore life. Keep my ears open to you and my eyes clear so your way restores and delights me. Help me to represent you well and live in complete trust in your plan.

“The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

I will defend this city and save it,

Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;

Lord God my father,

Your path is perfect and in order. Help me to place you in my thoughts so you guide every decision. Give me strength and focus to stand with you in all circumstances. You are worthy of all my praise.

But he also fashions a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it.

They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand.

I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.

“There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”

Lord God my Fahter,

You are all there is and was and ever will be. Help me to know where I place my future in my own power or desire. Show me how to surrender completely to your desire and will. Only in you can I live the best life, my will has idols and chaos.

Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor?

“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.

“Yet you have not called on me, Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, Israel. 23You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices.

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Lord God my Father,

You are all mighty and all knowing, your way is order and Peace. Who am I but a sinner struggling to follow you better each day. Expose in my the idols I am tempted by and bring me strength to overcome them. I wish to honor you in all my ways so your Glory is revealed. Make me clean under your authority.

In Jesus name I pray,

I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.’

I will say to those called ‘Not my people,’ ‘You are my people’;

and they will say, ‘You are my God.’ ”

Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.

Then I will return to my lair

until they have borne their guilt

and seek my face—

in their misery

they will earnestly seek me.”

Lord God my Father,

Your forgiveness and grace are beyond understanding. You cause my desire to be your design when I seek you and I am delivered from my past. I now seek you with all my will so I may experience your blessings in all situations before me. Thank you for not giving up on me and pursuing me through today and into tomorrow. Each day is better than the last.

Return, you Israelites, to the One you have so greatly revolted against. 7For in that day every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold your sinful hands have made.

Those who walk righteously and speak what is right, who reject gain from extortion and keep their hands from accepting bribes, who stop their ears against plots of murder and shut their eyes against contemplating evil— 16they are the ones who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. Their bread will be supplied, and water will not fail them.

Lord God my Father,

We are lost and addicted to our sinful desires. Give us the desire you designed for us and the strength to follow it. Restore us to our perfect design so we may be righteous under your authority. Surround us with like minded people and cause us to come together with common desire to be made new.
