So Israel was reduced to starvation by the Midianites. Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help.

“Go with the strength you have, and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I am sending you!” 15“But Lord,” Gideon replied, “how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the whole tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least in my entire family!” 16The Lord said to him, “I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man.”

Then Gideon said to God, “Please don’t be angry with me, but let me make one more request. Let me use the fleece for one more test.

“Get up! Go down into the Midianite camp, for I have given you victory over them!

Lord God my Father,

Cause a stillness to rest on me so I may hear only your desire in my thoughts. Direct me i your way and give me victory in the battles you place me in. Cause me to seek to verify it is your will I am following above my own and delight me in the outcome of your design. Your victory in all that I need, may your will be done cheerfully in my heart.

Once again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, and the Lord gave King Eglon of Moab control over Israel because of their evil.

But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord again raised up a rescuer to save them.

“Follow me,” he said, “for the Lord has given you victory over Moab your enemy.” 

After Ehud’s death, the Israelites again did evil in the Lord’s sight. 2So the Lord turned them over to King Jabin of Hazor

Then Deborah said to Barak, “Get ready! This is the day the Lord will give you victory

‘Let the people of Meroz be cursed,’ said the angel of the Lord. ‘Let them be utterly cursed, because they did not come to help the Lord— to help the Lord against the mighty warriors.’

“Lord, may all your enemies die like Sisera! But may those who love you rise like the sun in all its power!”

Lord God my Father,

Keep me in your favor and away from your enemy. If I must fight for you, go ahead of me and show me your path, give me victory. Protect me from doing evil and representing you poorly. Bless my family and land and use us for your desire.

I declare that I will no longer drive out the people living in your land. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a constant temptation to you.”

Whenever the Lord raised up a judge over Israel, he was with that judge and rescued the people from their enemies throughout the judge’s lifetime. For the Lord took pity on his people, who were burdened by oppression and suffering. 19But when the judge died, the people returned to their corrupt ways, behaving worse than those who had lived before them. They went after other gods, serving and worshiping them. And they refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

Lord God my Father,

Keep my heart longing for only you, be my strength. Build in me a temple that only listens and looks for you and rejects the false gods of temptation.

If you break the covenant of the Lord your God by worshiping and serving other gods, his anger will burn against you, and you will quickly vanish from the good land he has given you.”

 Serve the Lord alone. 15But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve.

“We will serve the Lord our God. We will obey him alone.”

Lord God my Father,

Keep my heart dedicated to you, remove any other idols from my desire. I will serve you alone, above any other desire. Cause me to obey you as you desire me to.

Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.

Lord God my Father,

Your promise is always answered as you say it will. Help me to release my desire to understand and just follow your plan without question.

“How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you? 

Lord God my Father,

Give me obedience that will not wait, but act swiftly and completely.

“I myself will drive these people out of the land ahead of the Israelites. 

Hebron still belongs to the descendants of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord, the God of Israel.

Lord God my Father,

I know you are all powerful and don’t need my help. Give me strength to do your will for me without hesitation and serve you well. Help me to claim what you desire me to have with boldness and delight.

We have heard of the might of the Lord your God and of all he did in Egypt. 

So the Israelites examined their food, but they did not consult the Lord.

The Lord threw them into a panic, and the Israelites slaughtered great numbers of them at Gibeon. 

Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day. 14There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!

He completely destroyed everyone in the land, leaving no survivors, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded. 

Joshua conquered all these kings and their land in a single campaign, for the Lord, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people.

Lord God my Father,

Your reputation speaks for itself, help me to reflect it, giving you all the glory. Keep me from decisions on my own and protect me from deceit. Throw the enemy into confusion and direct me on how to fight for you. Give me a faith that truly knows you and your ability to do anything you want. Restore my family to your design and help us to represent you well in all times, good and bad. Cause my battles to release your Glory at all times.

When all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings who lived along the Mediterranean coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan River so the people of Israel could cross, they lost heart and were paralyzed with fear because of them.

“Are you friend or foe?” 14“Neither one,” he replied. “I am the commander of the Lord’s army.” At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. “I am at your command,” Joshua said. “What do you want your servant to do?”

They completely destroyed everything in it with their swords—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep, goats, and donkeys.

So the Lord was with Joshua, and his reputation spread throughout the land.

 I wanted them so much that I took them.

Lord God my Father,

Strike fear in the heart of evil marching to take this nation. Give us, your people, courage to stand up in your presence and allow you to defeat the enemy as you desire. Give us heart for your design and not rely on ourselves. Help us to gather and be obedient to the commander of the Lord’s army. Help me to not be overwhelmed by the discomfort my limited wisdom can accept and trust your command as you speak it. Be with me and protect me from my sinful desires.

In Jesus name I pray,

No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Then Joshua told the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do great wonders among you.”

These armed men—about 40,000 strong—were ready for battle, and the Lord was with them as they crossed over to the plains of Jericho.

Lord God my Father,

Your strength is with me, allow me to trust you completely. Allow your strength to be my strength and your purpose to be my guide. Purify me from my sin nature and arm me for your battle.
