I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer5:11 Greek a brother. yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.

You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.

Lord God my Father,
I wish to live in and express your sincerity and truth. Protect me from the evil plans of this world, may I express your will in all things. Remove the issues I struggle with that binds me to this world and release me to live in your light.

Chosen by the will of God

This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus,

For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power.

Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.2:13 Or explaining spiritual truths in spiritual language, or explaining spiritual truths to spiritual people. 14But people who aren’t spiritual2:14 Or who don’t have the Spirit; or who have only physical life. can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

And you still aren’t ready, 3for you are still controlled by your sinful nature.

Lord God my Father,
You have chosen me, I need to follow wholeheartedly. I surrender to your will for me to carry and to leave my way behind me. Allow my spirit to follow in all things and speak your truth and Love to all. Open the eyes of your people and bring us all together under your authority. Remove my sinful nature and create a boldness in me that overtakes the lies.

We wanted very much to come to you, and I, Paul, tried again and again, but Satan prevented us.

God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. 4Then each of you will control his own body4:4 Or will know how to take a wife for himself; or will learn to live with his own wife; Greek reads will know how to possess his own vessel. and live in holiness and honor—5not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.

Always be joyful. 17Never stop praying. 18Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Lord God my Father,
Protect me from interference Satan wishes me to trip over. Cleanse me from my earthly desires that distract me from doing your work. Motivate me with your Joyful presence, may I only desire your Love. Help me to accept your gift of grace and find my worth in you.

For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.

But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us.

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control.

For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Lord God my Father,
Give me understanding of my own struggle, you know I love you yet I struggle to keep my desires in this world out of my thoughts and actions. May I live by the spirit completely and have a heart filled with your desire, a desire for you. I surrender my past, deliver me to now with you in charge.

One with him, One in him.

For you are all children3:26 Greek sons. of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.

Lord God my Father,
I am yours and I need to understand the power that brings to me as well as the responsibility. Lord God, allow your spirit alive in me to control me, teach me how to get out of your way and trust you in all areas of my thoughts and actions.

Strength in a quiet spirit.

This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Lord God my Father,
May I only see you and follow you both in spirit and action. May I take great joy in the struggles as they make me strong, may I have a gentle heart in all things. May I do your will now and not put it off.

But Josiah refused to listen to Neco, to whom God had indeed spoken,

and he refused to humble himself when the prophet Jeremiah spoke to him directly from the Lord.

Lord God my Father,
May I listen to you and be obedient to you, take my resistance and turn my completely to you.

To be a purified priest of the Lord

So Josiah removed all detestable idols from the entire land of Israel and required everyone to worship the Lord their God. And throughout the rest of his lifetime, they did not turn away from the Lord, the God of their ancestors.

Lord God my Father,
Purify my heart and restore me to a level of worship that bring you all the honor and glory, May I be nothing more than your servant. Remove in my thoughts all the idols and purify me to serve you in all areas of my life.

To be removed from the influence of this world

7Then Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be placed on the altar. As the burnt offering was presented, songs of praise to the Lord were begun, accompanied by the trumpets and other instruments

all whose hearts were willing brought burnt offerings,

So the Temple of the Lord was restored to service. 36And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had done for the people, for everything had been accomplished so quickly.

Lord God my Father,
Keep me aware of the areas of my life I don’t freely give to you, may I be obedient and willing in my worship. Restore my purpose to be under your authority and care properly for all you have trusted me with.
