David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. 2He sang:

He rescued me from my powerful enemies,
from those who hated me and were too strong for me.

Lord God my Father,
May I be in a state of rejoicing for the wonders you reveal to me. May I place my struggles in your hands and trust you will deal with them. May my faith be without doubt that you are in control of all. May I hand my enemy over to your care and follow your desires over my own.
I Jesus name I pray,

Then Joab went to the king’s room and said to him, “We saved your life today and the lives of your sons, your daughters, and your wives and concubines. Yet you act like this, making us feel ashamed of ourselves. 6You seem to love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made it clear today that your commanders and troops mean nothing to you.

Lord God my Father,
I place my emotions in your hands, may I praise you at all times above my desire for this world. Grant me your wisdom and peace and open my heart to be used to pass your peace to others in this world. May I delight in your works.

The king was overcome with emotion. He went up to the room over the gateway and burst into tears. And as he went, he cried, “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you! O Absalom, my son, my son.”

Lord God my Father,
May I have the heart of David, may I have love for my enemy and morn for the lost. May I be your servant above my desires.

But Amnon wouldn’t listen to her, and since he was stronger than she was, he raped her. 15Then suddenly Amnon’s love turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. “Get out of here!” he snarled at her.

I know that you are like an angel of God in discerning good from evil. May the Lord your God be with you.”

Lord God my Father,
Place your wisdom in me above my worldly desires, grant me a pureness that can only come from you. Left to my own ways I twist your ways to serve me, Protect me from my sinful nature. Allow me to be your servant, courageous by your will. Give me a discerning heart removing evil from my thoughts.

In fact, the Lord made David victorious wherever he went.
15So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.

Lord God my Father,
May I have a heart that only follows you, may I do what is right in your eyes and serve only you.

In Jesus name,
Amen

But one day when Saul was sitting at home, with spear in hand, the tormenting spirit19:9 Or evil spirit. from the Lord suddenly came upon him again.

Lord God my Father,
I pray you fill me with your truth to the point I am protected from my earthly torment. Deliver me to delight with you in all things, especially the trials for they will open my eyes further to your way.

In Jesus name,
Amen

“What is more pleasing to the Lord:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.
23Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,
and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.
So because you have rejected the command of the Lord,
he has rejected you as king.”

“You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

Lord God my Father,
I ask you to destroy the distractions in my life that I allow to keep me from obedience to you. May I submit to your will in all things. Remove my rebellious nature and replace it with obedience to you. Rescue me from the claws of this world, may your name be my fuel burning in me.

I Jesus name,
Amen

But now your kingdom must end, for the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart.

“Do what you think is best,” the armor bearer replied. “I’m with you completely, whatever you decide.”

Lord God my Father,
May I be a man after your heart, again I plea for you to remove the desire I have placed in my heart and place only yours in me. With you absolutely anything is possible, things I don’t currently believe. Remove my doubt and give me focus. May I be obedient only to you.

In Jesus name,
Amen

And I am here to tell you that you and your family are the focus of all Israel’s hopes.”

As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day.

Lord God my father,
May I be the focus of your desire to reach others with your hope. May I be powered by your Spirit this day, change me into your servant. Give me a new heart, a heart for you.

In Jesus name I pray,

Then Samuel said to all the people of Israel, “If you want to return to the Lord with all your hearts, get rid of your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth. Turn your hearts to the Lord and obey him alone; then he will rescue you from the Philistines.”

But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning. “Even so, we still want a king,” they said. 20“We want to be like the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.”

Lord God my Father,
Set me above the idols in my life, destroy the desire I have that is not of you, destroy the ability of Satan to reach me, protect me. May I listen to your warning and desire to be ruled by you alone.
