His wisdom and strength.

Jehoiada the priest decided to act. He summoned his courage and made a pact with five army commanders:

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people that they would be the Lord’s people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. 18And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces,

So the priests agreed not to accept any more money from the people, and they also agreed to let others take responsibility for repairing the Temple.

“Go to all the towns of Judah and collect the required annual offerings, so that we can repair the Temple of your God. Do not delay!” But the Levites did not act immediately.

But after Jehoiada’s death, the leaders of Judah came and bowed before King Joash and persuaded him to listen to their advice. 18They decided to abandon the Temple of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and they worshiped Asherah poles and idols instead! Because of this sin, divine anger fell on Judah and Jerusalem. 19Yet the Lord sent prophets to bring them back to him. The prophets warned them, but still the people would not listen.

Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands and keep yourselves from prospering? You have abandoned the Lord, and now he has abandoned you!”

Lord God my Father,

Give me the courage to do your will and protection from distractions. I wish to only honor you in my actions. Give me your wisdom to follow your desire your way.

In Jesus name I pray,

Seeking freedom from me.

Jehu replied, “How can there be peace as long as the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother, Jezebel, are all around us?”

Then Jehu killed all who were left of Ahab’s relatives living in Jezreel and all his important officials, his personal friends, and his priests. So Ahab was left without a single survivor.

In this way, Jehu destroyed every trace of Baal worship from Israel. 29He did not, however, destroy the gold calves at Bethel and Dan, with which Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to sin.

Lord God my Father,

Cleanse me heart so it only listens to you, remove my sin nature and show me where there are strongholds. May I serve you unconditionally.

In Jesus name I pray,

His way, beyond my understanding.

“I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me!

if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’”

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

Lord God my Father,

Keep me from expecting and keep me in obedience. I want to do your will your way not mine. Your plan is best and your forces are stronger than I can imagine. Help me to submit to your plan today.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Expect beyond

Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress.

“No,” Elisha said, “don’t send them.” 17But they kept urging him until they shamed him into agreeing, and he finally said, “All right, send them.” So fifty men searched for three days but did not find Elijah. 18Elisha was still at Jericho when they returned. “Didn’t I tell you not to go?” he asked.

Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of boys from the town began mocking and making fun of him. “Go away, baldy!” they chanted. “Go away, baldy!” 24Elisha turned around and looked at them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of them.

“What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?”“Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied.3And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors.

“Why go today?” he asked. “It is neither a new moon festival nor a Sabbath.”But she said, “It will be all right.”

Lord God my Father,

Open my eyes to see your strength, give me faith to remove doubt, allow your will to be my will and my work to be your work. Help me to look past the limits I carry.

In Jesus name I pray,

Free in His will.

And then seat two scoundrels across from him who will accuse him of cursing God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.”

But Micaiah replied, “As surely as the Lord lives, I will say only what the Lord tells me to say.”

Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory.

Lord God my Father,

Protect me from the scoundrels of this world, allow me to only carry your truth in my heart and do your plan and allow you to fight my battles.

In Jesus name I pray,

His day, His way!

Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.”

“I have made no trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worshiped the images of Baal instead.

Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel.

“This is what the Lord says: Do you see all these enemy forces? Today I will hand them all over to you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

Lord God my Father,

Make my faith bold so you may be seen thru me. Give me your strength and a determination to do this day your way. Guide me and tell me how to engage in the day.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

Stubborn for good only

The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

They provoked the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, with their worthless idols.

For he, too, had done what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He followed the example of Jeroboam in all the sins he had committed and led Israel to commit.

Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.”5So Elijah did as the Lord told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. 6The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.

Lord God my Father,

Make my heart hard for your only, soften evil’s grip and bring me under your authority. I wish to do what pleases you this day.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

His wisdom

But Rehoboam spoke harshly to them, for he rejected the advice of the older counselors 14and followed the counsel of his younger advisers.

Lord God my Father,

Soften my heart to embrace your council and use your wisdom today.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen

His day, His plan

Finishing is better than starting.

Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked?

The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil. 10Whatever you do, do well.

Laziness leads to a sagging roof; idleness leads to a leaky house.

Lord God my Father,

Place your wisdom in my heart and keep me in your plan. Protect me from my foolishness and on your path, may I inspire those who know me in your ability alone.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
